Vietnam destination baseline
Documents issued by Australian authorities for use in Vietnam still need DFAT authentication before legalisation by the Embassy of Vietnam in Australia, unless an exemption applies.
- The Embassy of Vietnam in Australia says Australian documents for use in Vietnam must be authenticated by DFAT before embassy legalisation
- The embassy also asks for supporting materials such as cover letter, ID copy, and return envelope for postal handling
- Vietnam-facing matters may still turn on translation and whether the document is exempt or qualified for legalisation
- Clear destination use and receiving authority in Vietnam
- Current file scan showing whether the document is already DFAT-authenticated or still at pre-DFAT stage
- Check whether Vietnamese translation, signed declaration, or company-use wording needs to be prepared in parallel
This screening is for preliminary route assessment only and is not legal advice. Original documents may still be required depending on document type, issuing authority, destination, and receiving-side requirements.
- Birth / marriage certificates
- Educational documents / letters of enrolment
- Police checks / affidavits
- Company records / powers of attorney
Vietnam files can move reasonably well once the DFAT-authenticated form is ready and the supporting pack is complete. Delays are common where translation, embassy paperwork, or destination-use detail is still missing.
